Give Me Your Eyes

One of my favorite songs right now is by Brandon Heath, “Give Me Your Eyes”. Brandon said this “is a song about my own convictions for wanting to see the world with compassionate eyes”.

1 Peter 3:8 tells us “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble”.

We are fast approaching the busiest time of the year. It seems as though once Thanksgiving hits, the next few weeks that follow go by in a blur. I hope we all can take time to be compassionate and tender hearted to those less fortunate and in need. I know it seems like everyone is “pinching” in the money department right now so maybe we can give our time. Rake a yard for an elderly neighbor, visit someone in a nursing home, bake some cookies, help serve food in a shelter or clean out closets and give to a charity, lend an ear just to listen if someone needs to talk. Sometimes the simple things are appreciated the most.

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black tile
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
Are those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Wasn’t it far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
again
again
yeah
yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what’s underneath
There’s a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He’s out of work
He’s buying time
Are those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Wasn’t it far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
again
again
yeah
yeah

I’ve Been there a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just moving past me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
Well I want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you see the people all alone

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
Wasn’t it far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the once forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see
Give me your eyes yeah.

I've found out the elderly in the nursing home don't care if you can sing or not. They just love seeing someone and having company.

I CANNOT sing a lick. Actually, I did take piano for seven years but I had to memorize everything I played, couldn't sight read. It's like my brain couldn't communicate with my fingers fast enough.

My mother and my paternal grandmother both play(ed) by ear beautifully. Wish I could.
